Throughout the years   from 1963  to 1971,
Mercedes Benz introduce several changes on the  ignition system ,the very early
models were equipped with cast iron distributors vacuum advance , by 1965
they were replace by cast iron distributors with vacuum retard , those were kept in
production
up mid of 1969 , after that the aluminum body were standard
production ,other modifications include the introduction of the transistorized
ignition by mid 1969 , however many cars through the years have been altered either  with
service replacement distributors from Mercedes Benz or complete engine replacements
from the dealerships or other model donors , it is important to  make sure that you are getting
the correct ignition components for your car application checking, if possible, the Bosch
ignition distributor number on the its tag attached to it .( see picture).
DISTRIBUTOR TAG NUMBER
The early distributors(VJUR, JFUR,040,046,047,051) are cast iron units. Later distributors (062,067,007,009,010) are aluminum bodied.
